EU’s videnskabelige fødevaresikkerheds-organ EFSA finder nu, at dokumentationen for, at chrom medvirker til at opretholde et normalt blodsukker-niveau er så stærk, at EFSA anbefaler EU-kommissionen dette som en lovlig anprisning på kosttilskud der indeholder tilstrækkeligt chrom.

 

Hvad må der siges?
Selv om det ikke er ophøjet til lov endnu, har kosttilskudsbranchen nu lov til at sige, at: ”Krom indgår i et normalt stofskifte” og at ”krom bidrager til at opretholde et normalt blodsukkerniveau i kroppen”, hvilket er et fremskridt i forhold til tidligere.

Krom fungerer som et hjælpestof til det vigtige hormon insulin, som sørger for at kroppens celler får de nødvendige sukkerstoffer, og et normalt blodsukker er temmelig vigtigt, når dagligdagen skal fungere.

 

Hvad er blodsukker?
Blodsukker er en almindelig betegnelse for mængden af sukker i blodet. Raske personer har normalt en blodsukkerværdi på mellem 4 og 7 mmol/l. For højt blodsukker gennem længere tid kan give symptomer som stor tørst, træthed og vægttab. For lavt blodsukker gennem længere tid kan give symptomer som uro, sult, irritation, træthed og koncentrationsbesvær.
